Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the BackupPilot.
Product Status
Backup Operations & Intelligence Platform
BackupPilot is shipping today for Veeam environments. The unified multi-vendor platform remains roadmap-only.
What is BackupPilot?
BackupPilot is currently an operational intelligence platform for Veeam environments. It provides local-first assessment, troubleshooting, validation, recovery estimation, and reporting workflows for Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam ONE, and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
Is BackupPilot a monitoring platform?
No. BackupPilot is not a monitoring or alerting platform and is not a replacement for Veeam ONE. It focuses on local assessments that help identify issues before a support case is opened.
Is this an official Veeam tool?
No. This is an unofficial diagnostic/readiness tool developed by Spenvest Lab. It does not replace official vendor documentation or support guidance.
Does this tool store customer data?
No customer data is uploaded. BackupPilot executes assessments locally through its own backend runner, stores history in a local SQLite database on the same machine, and keeps reports local unless you explicitly export them.
Do I need to install an agent?
No agent and no manual scripts. You install the BackupPilot desktop app on the target server, and it runs assessments internally through its own embedded backend runner. There is nothing to wire up, and it removes cleanly through its uninstaller.
Why do assessments run locally?
Readiness checks need real system, SQL, port, and service information from the actual server. Running locally keeps credentials on your machine, avoids collecting passwords, and means no data leaves your environment unless you choose to export and share a report.
Which tools are available today?
The current live workflows are Veeam Backup & Replication readiness, Veeam ONE readiness, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 readiness, recovery time estimation, local scoring, local history, and report export.
What does the Run Assessment page do?
You select the product and click Run Assessment. BackupPilot executes the checks internally through its local backend runner and shows the scored report automatically — you do not generate scripts, run anything by hand, or import JSON. Results are saved to local history and can be exported as JSON, HTML, or PDF. Nothing is uploaded automatically.
What products are supported right now?
BackupPilot currently supports Veeam environments only. Multi-vendor connectors and unified operations views remain roadmap items and are not presented as currently available functionality.
Is the unified dashboard available today?
No. The long-term vision is a unified backup operations platform, but the current launch scope is Veeam-focused operational intelligence. Unified dashboard, MSP multi-tenant, AI troubleshooting, and non-Veeam connectors are roadmap items only.
Do Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity, NetBackup, or Acronis work today?
No. Those vendors are planned roadmap areas only. BackupPilot should not be positioned today as having live support for Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity, NetBackup, Acronis, or any other non-Veeam platform.
